While talking with the event organizers, Gas Monkey Garage learned the PPIHC didn’t have an official pace vehicle yet. Aaron offered to have Gas Monkey Garage build something to support the event he was quickly falling in love with. He recommended a performance-based truck since everyone back in the shop were truck guys and they could bring one that was mean and nasty, Gas Monkey style.
The biggest names, craziest builds and the cleanest cars show up in force to Wekfest, and the most recent stop of the USA tour in Houston was no different.
Check out the highlights of some great competitors from Colorado who’d decided to compete at this year’s Drag Week.
Drag Week had always been a time-trial event, seeing who can get the fastest ET time. It was more of a race against the clock than other competitors . This year, though, HOT ROD decided to make things a little bit more exciting, a little bit more heated and a lot a bit more competitive.
These are actions shots. This is where emotion, triumph and heartbreak are captured. Wheelies are performed. Engines are blown. Oil is splooged all over the track like a teenage boy who just discovered you could make out somewhat of a boob if you flip back and forth from the Skinemax channel. TV gold!
Are you pregnant, or think you may become pregnant? Do you have a medical condition that your doctor doesn’t know about? Do you get a semi whenever you see under the hood of a 1967 Chevrolet Nova sporting twin turbochargers and a Chevy big-block engine? If you fall into the last camp, you should personally thank our man in the trenches, Joel Chan.
Drag Week is a time when some of the fastest cars in the country come together to settle old rivalries and create new ones. Feelings are hurt and egos are stoked only to crumble like the Roman Empire. Cars of all delicious flavors and creeds come out to the event as drivers violently race their way to the top of their respective classes. This is where drivers are made and legacies are lost. This isn’t a fancy-pants event waiting to hold your hand through the minefield that is competitive drag racing.
Strapped in his 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, Bailey was dialing in the car at a Tulsa Raceway Park test and tune. During the run, Bailey ran a 6.52 at 226 mph quarter mile. This bests his previous record-holding runs at last year’s Drag Week.
Simply stated, Bonham’s Quail Lodge Auction pulled off the sale of the year last week during their two-day event. They boasted a 92-percent sale through rate and posted numerous world records. Monterey Car Week was a culmination of the world’s most sophisticated car show, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and daily classic car auctions held by the likes of RM, Mecum, Rick Cole, Russo and Steele, Bonhams, and the Pebble Beach Auction, presented by Gooding & Company, which drew over $400 million in sales. Numerous road and cruise events took place as well as an abundance of class and manufacturer specific events to appease even the most scrupulous collector. This was truly the premier classic and vintage automobile and motorcycle event of 2014.

In the performance ring, JDM often stresses harmony when improving the car, maintaining the original intent and spirit of the car. Regan Yu with his NSX ticks many of these same boxes, but stands out because of the overall ethos of his approach to the build. You see, Regan is a passionate enthusiast, but he also possesses a keen sense of value and an ability to recognize quality. It is a trait that serves him well in his professional life in commercial real estate, and that same trait has paid dividends in his approach to building his NSX.
Thunder Valley Raceway recently rocked and rumbled with the Oklahoma City Street Car Takeover presented by Nitrous Outlet—the acclaimed premiere motorsports tour of the year. In Tulsa, Okla., Thursday afternoons are synonymous with college bar specials and yard work—a day to get things out of the way for the weekend. Every year on June 12 though, Tulsa turns into an automotive stomping ground for one automaker in particular. Every year Tulsa hosts the Mid-America Shelby Nationals where owners of new and old Ford and Shelby Mustangs take to the streets to cruise by the iconic riverside. Police set up roadblocks to corral the high-horsepowered ponies.
