Clarity. Exposure. Sharpness. Tone. Contrast. Subject & Composition. These are all qualities that define a great photograph. And they’re exactly what we’re looking for. With this series, we aim to highlight the industry professionals and amateurs who have dedicated their time and expertise to create anything from perfect renditions to stunning works of art. From that perfect natural golden hour light scraping across the car in just the right way to full-on studio lighting where photographers masterfully shape the car with strobes—as long as the primary subject was taken with a camera, it’s fair game. If you like what you see, please be sure to jump over to the photographer’s Facebook or Flickr pages and follow them to show your support.

The roll races competition is really what this event is all about. The high-level competition pits competitors against each other, taking them off the streets and putting them in a safe environment where they can really show what their machines are worth. It’s put so much more into perspective. It’s not just about how many horses come pumping out, but also about the strategy, the shifts, putting the rubber to the pavement, gearing ratios and having the cajones to hang it all out on the line for that one glory pull. This is what it’s all about. We’re not trying to diminish the importance of record-enabling trap speeds, but this is toe-to-toe competition and what many of our competitors come out for!

This past weekend marked the conclusion of the 2015 Pikes Peak Speedweek, and what will go down as the most successful and largest half-mile side-by-side roll racing event in the world: the Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack, in our own backyard at the Colorado Springs Airport!

by

Breathtaking. That was our purest response upon seeing this high-tech machine at Ford’s new Palo Alto location. We’d seen it in person at Detroit of course, but this meeting would prove to be a much more intimate experience.

by

Technology continues to consume the automotive world at a frantic pace. Today, the entry-level vehicles we drive are safer than they’ve ever been, and instead of being appreciative, we’re pissed when a $25,000 car’s infotainment system doesn’t have the same effortless UIs as our $700 iPhones. We bitch about it on web forums, nod emphatically when consumer websites badmouth systems that took years and millions of dollars to develop and put way too much weight on infotainment when it comes time to car shop. When did vehicle satisfaction start hinging on a Bluetooth connection?

Remember the days when going 225 in the half mile was f*cking insane? We do too and feels like it was years ago! And it was. We were going through our archives and stumbled across this gem that we never released and with Airstrip Attack 8 this week, we think it's time we showed the world. Enjoy this piece back from 2013 when Underground Racing reigned supreme with a new world record at 224.9 MPH established by Stacey Barnett.

Budget performance cars are a critical part of the mod life. They’re an affordable option for young enthusiasts just entering the market—and many times, drivers develop lifetime allegiances to the makes or models that they start with. The criteria were simple: under $35,000, over 200 horsepower, zero to 60 times under 6 seconds and quarter-mile times under 14 seconds.

Acura Delivers The New-Gen NSX

by

When the Raptor was unleashed on the automotive world in 2010, it took many by surprise, even the likes of the competition, who were left scrambling to offer anything resembling the off-road ready truck. It has been highly successful for Ford, since becoming the poster child of Ford truck capability.
In 2015, Ford introduced the aluminum-body F-150, gaining significant weight savings. Continuing to ride its predecessor’s success, a Raptor ceremoniously broke cover at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

by

At the 2015 North American International Auto Show, Ford unleashed what it calls the most capable street-legal Mustang it has ever built. Those are big shoes to fill considering the track-ready capability of the original Ford Shelby Mustang GT350 competition car. However, the car that rolled out in Detroit will put it to shame.

This automotive Frankenstein may be the most important American sports car ever—a bona fide, in-the-sheetmetal mid-engined Corvette. But until GM gets some proper Corvette bodywork on it, you can call it the StingHoldIllac.

by

Pansies who complain about driving in snow, amirite? Oh no, your underpowered, all seasons-wearing sedan is sliding a bit after a light dusting? You know they built that understeer in from the factory so you wouldn’t kill yourself, right?

by

Seeing a cop’s flashing lights behind you is a bad start to a day. But seeing Jay Leno say, "This is not gonna end well," while getting pulled over in a new Z06 is a great way to start a video.

by

Now that 2015 is here, some of those machines are more than 10 years old. Which means that we no longer have to buy new to score one helluva performance bargain! So we dug through the archives and came up with the 9 best used performance cars that can be bought for under 30 grand.

Celebrities have the widest wealth-to-taste ratio known to man. It’s science. So when gaudy mansions or Bichon Frisé-holding designer handbags don’t get enough attention, they buy expensive cars, and then promptly destroy them in the name of “style.”

by

In 2016, Ford will build upon its modern Ford GT supercar and its 1960s racing heritage: Ford is revealing a GT successor in Detroit next month, and also plans to build and campaign a two-car Tudor Series racing team.

by

Matt wasn’t just looking for the fastest way to blow through a ton of cash—even though his fire-farting, gravel-throwing antics pretty much ensure rapid, right-before-your-eyes depreciation. Instead, this was an emphatic statement that this bull’s prissy car-show days are over. Yes, the “Brakimghini” will live its next life as a stage rally racer.

by

Since its 2004 birth, the Cadillac CTS-V has gone from a frustratingly incomplete car to one of the best performance vehicles in the world. And with the all-new 2016 model sporting the Corvette Z06’s stellar LT4 engine, Cadillac’s message to the world’s super sedans is clear: we’re coming for you.

by

The new NSX can be traced back to 2007. Honda/Acura debuted the “Advanced Sports Car Concept” at that year’s North American International Auto Show. It was a bit odd-looking, but it packed a V-10, a carbon-fiber underbody and wild tech-like carbon-ceramic discs with 8-piston calipers.

by

Earlier this week, a Camaro6.com member named chazcron drew up some amazing renderings. They represent his idea of the perfect sixth-gen Camaro: body styling similar to the fifth-gen, but with a more aggressive nose, a more pronounced hood bulge and wicked, LED-based lighting. While the 2010 Camaro’s tail was straight-up bulbous, GM made great strides in the last few years smoothing it out. So we’re not crazy about chazcron’s rounded, almost Supra-looking rear—but other than that, these renderings are the sex.

If someone told you that their 911’s wing and splitter were made from 80 bucks of beer cooler foam and aluminum roofing, you’d probably say you don’t know Jack, then crack a Walmart joke.

by

If you live the mod life, you know there are two schools of thought when it comes to engine size: bigger is better (‘Murica!), and big boost. But Reddit, ever-logical hub of wisdom and celebrity nudes, just birthed the craziest-ever combination of those two principles: someone’s building a 4-turbo, V-12 1GZ clone with 2 1JZ Supra engines.

by

LS specialist Vengeance Racing not only led the pack in Z06 testing and tuning, Ron Mowen’s shop gave their new Z06 a memorable introduction. First, their 1-mile Z06 burned off thousands of miles of tread life in the dealership’s parking lot. Nice. Then, they strapped it down to their DynoJet and recorded an impressive 585 rwhp and 611 lb-ft of twist at the rear wheels. Internet breakage commenced.

For those of you who somehow don’t already have a big ’ol man crush on inaudible F1 hotshoe Kimi Raikkonen, then consider school in session. Kimi is what the phrase “no fucks given” would look like, if phrases could drink heavily, fall off yachts and pass out outside bars holding an inflatable dolphin.

by

Ever since rumblings of a new, supercharged Z06 hit the Interweb, there’s been two different but equally forceful narrative-explosions: the first, natch, was “How much power will it make?” And the second was, “DURRR YOUSE GONNA PUT A BLOWER ON A ROAD COURSE CAR DURRR IS YOU STUPED?” And that second quote was mine.

A short, 30-second clip has gone mega viral in which a semi truck jumps a lowly F1 car in spectacular fashion.

While talking with the event organizers, Gas Monkey Garage learned the PPIHC didn’t have an official pace vehicle yet. Aaron offered to have Gas Monkey Garage build something to support the event he was quickly falling in love with. He recommended a performance-based truck since everyone back in the shop were truck guys and they could bring one that was mean and nasty, Gas Monkey style.

In this vid from the 2012 Neste Oil Rally Finland, WRC racer Craig Breen definitely takes a beating. But unlike our dumbasses, Mr. Breen isn’t actually trying to smash his expensive car into tiny little pieces.

Lotus may be in some trouble, but that doesn’t mean its products haven’t cultivated a cult-like following, like Ben Pengson's wide-body 2008 Lotus Exige S.

A Lamborghini spins at 228 mph and it lives to tell the tale.

Today, the automaker has set its own design language, further distancing itself from the badge-engineering days of yesteryear, and is now creating a slew of handsome luxury offerings that, even though Cadillac may still feel it, don’t look old. Think of it like Donald Trump if he dressed like Lil Wayne.

by

Corey Kelty is a 23-year-old Air Force crew chief who “works on C130s, gets his hands dirty, and travels all over hell,” in that order. Growing up, he raced slot cars with his gramps, and learned about old Austin/Morris Minis from his dad, so it was no surprise that when Kelty got close to driving age, he fell in love with European cars.

Even halfway across the world, the desire for more power is ubiquitous.

A backflip goes wrong and we go along for the wild ride. Nobody was injured in the making of the video. Only egos.

The Lamborghini Aventador has many unique features—700 horses, AWD, 2.9-seconds to 60—but its flame-spitting exhaust is one of the best. A $400,000 buy-in makes for one really expensive flamethrower, but that’s the price you pay to be the undisputed IRL and YouTube crowd favorite of supercars.

by

The record-breaking Cadillac CTS-V has done it again, breaking it's own record and setting a new one.

by

RAUH-Welt BeGriff, or RWB for short, is a Japanese tuner that builds some of the world’s most unique Porsches. Powered by tireless owner Akira Nakai, RWB’s striking body mods meticulously meld JDM with strong Euro accents.

by

Wildly styled JDM GT-Rs came out in force at this year's SEMA show. And when our intrepid shooters came across this stunning machine in an outdoor Toyo Tires exhibit, we knew we had to yell you about it.

by

It all went down a couple weeks after SS3, at Maryland International Raceway. Seems that the half-mile-spec GT-R wanted a piece of Jeff Bush’s 1G Talon drag car. Both are LLR machines, and both are 7-second capable—so it came down to how good Austin Oakes and Jeff Bush were behind the wheel.

by

This GoPro vid not only gives a great look at these gonzo Unlimited boats, it also showcases the unlimited angles and mediums available with these now-ubiquitous cameras. But once the drivers are sealed into their cabins/coffins and the jets are powered up, this piece turns into a stomach-churning adrenaline ride.

by

The latest flick by Jeffrey John Hart and team, showcases some of the baddest cars in the country. It accurately captures the absurdly high speeds of some of these vehicles are capable of. Burnouts are plentiful, and a combination of race gas and torched tires wafts through the air.

by

We all know racing is risky. It shouldn't be risky for the fans, but in some cases, as in rally racing, it can be. Spectators like to be as close to the action as possible, and when your course is a closed mountain road, there are very few ways to provide adequate barriers and runoff zones.

by

Motorsports and Sasquatch. When you think of one, the other immediately comes to mind. The two have been joined at the hip literally since this documentary shattered our understanding of the legendary hairy monster. Sasquatch is real, he can drift and he's after Danny George.

by

Office Gymkhana is the next big thing and you didn’t even know it.

by

Morris is used to that—whether he’s working or driving. This lifelong car enthusiast has built everything from a 700-whp, twin-turbo 350Z to a Camaro ZL1. But when he decided to buy something that was already competitive from the factory, he turned to the fastest Corvette in history. “The 2009 ZR1 was the answer: it had the motor, drivetrain, suspension, brakes and aero right out of the box.” And so began his reign of terror on the local streets, his long nights “Mexico” racing and his quick expulsions from drag strips for being way too fast for the cage requirements.

by

Part of our budding bromance with grinning maniac Chris Harris stems from a shared hatred of the bullshit you go through when driving press cars. A few years back, Harris railed against King Bullshitter Ferrari and its insane attempts to control every aspect of Ferrari press car coverage.

by

There may have been more GT-Rs than hookers in Vegas during the week of SEMA. For those of you who have never been propositioned on the Strip, that’s a lot. Now, R35 Godzillas have been making SEMA their stomping grounds since around 2010—but the sheer number of these Japanese supercars at the 2014 show has 'em all beat.

by

Modifying a two-door Nomad may seem like a waste of modifying potential, but in the hands of Johnny Martin art is made.

by

In the lead-up to Gymkhana Seven, Block fanned the flaming tire smoke by taking oddly accented Chris Harris for a spin. Not a metaphorical spin, a literal spin. And while Harris was in Hoonicorn’s passenger seat, I think he got a pretty good idea about how great Block’s product is.

by

We may no longer have the Boss 302, but Ford saw our disappointment and delivered a Shelby GT350 with a flat-plane V-8 and a 8,200 RPM redline. We're impressed.

I’m yelling at the top of my lungs for Ken Block and his astounding new video, Gymkhana Seven. While Mix-A-Lot’s wet dream is dropping trou and derping out brainless quotes like “They say I didn't have a talent...try balancing a champagne glass on your ass”, Ken Block is deftly whipping an 845-horse, all-wheel-drive, 1965 Mustang called Hoonicorn around Los Angeles’ many landmarks/obstacles.

Austin Oakes and his band of merry, likely clinically insane fellows teamed up with English Racing and Extreme Turbo Systems to craft the lascivious and salacious LLRGTR, which recently set the GT-R half-mile record at 223.88 mph at Shift-S3ctor Airstrip Attack 7.

Cadillac may be finally getting its groove back, but the 9.157-run would have been much more impressive if it was done in the wagon. Just sayin’.

The Aventador screams, leaves hard and pulls out a huge lead as the Evo sits spooling up. But that all changes once the Evo launches—its boost spikes, its turbo howls and the 8 puts JDM foot to Italian ass. When it’s all said and done, the 165-mph Lambo’s loss is measured in bus lengths, and the Evo’s trap speed hits 202 mph!

This beautiful madness started when Olivier Benloulou was introduced to Haig Kanadjian, co-owner of Elite Garage Operations of Montreal, which is known for high-end, custom modifications and race operations. OB was looking for a local tuner to manage their endeavors. Haig and his partner, Harry, have been servicing OB’s projects and operations ever since. Fast-forward and we arrive at these breathtaking Italian machines they currently unleash at multiple races around the country. That’s right, plural: a blue 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera and a red 2012 Super Trofeo Stradale.

Master wheelman Ken Block has gone from a rally racer uploading gymkhana practices, to one of motorsport’s biggest stars. And here’s your first look at the highly modded 1965 Mustang set to take Gymkhana 7 to the next level. It’s called the Hoonicorn.

Remember sex ed in high school? That tediously awkward, disturbingly interesting class where mortified boys and girls learned the inner workings of dude junk and lady parts? Sure you do. It’s been over 20 years, but I can still remember a few things: like when I thought the see-through, T-shaped female anatomy diagram looked like a Dodge Ram logo. In hindsight, sex ed was the most embarrassing high school event that didn’t end with me saying “I swear that never happens!”

The 2014 Red Bull Global Rally Cross (GRC) season ended Wednesday evening in Las Vegas. This year the LINQ Hotel & Casino played host and assembled an amazing course for the drivers, and an even better spectating arena for all the fans.

On October 27, just two days after the first 2015 STi ran a 9.994@142.16 mph, Prime Motoring took their newly modified 2015 STi out to Island Dragway in Great Meadows, N. J., to see if they could dominate the strip and come in with a faster time. When the dust settled and the smoke cleared, the time clock read 9.681@147.39 mph! The guys at Prime Motoring and AMS were extremely pleased with the trap, but are already planning for faster runs. Currently, they are waiting for beefier replacements for the stock driveshaft and axles, as well as a set of 15-inch wheels accompanied by some super sticky tires.

You may remember our preview of the Ring Brothers "Recoil" 1966 Chevelle from late October. Well, we spotted it on the SEMA floor this week, and to say that Ring Brothers brought the heat is an understatement.

When we bestow Steve Tornari's 1967 Nova with the title of "The Bluto Blutarsky of SEMA 2014," know that it's pretty much our highest honor. If you recall, Bluto was Animal House's grizzled veteran-he'd been around forever, gotten wrecked many times and, despite his geographic challenges, was a diamond in the rough.

Only a handful of bedroom activities last more than two seconds. For the 1960 Dodge Charger R/T Maximus at SEMA 2014, 0 to 60 is a two-second game we all win.

We stumbled upon this sweet 2015 Challenger SEMA project in the Amsoil booth and had to know more. Its story started when Chrysler put the word out that it was going to donate this car to a talented build team. So Vintage Race Rentals (VRR) and Pfaff Designs created the winning design, won the job and took delivery of the second 2015 Challenger off the assembly line in September. And that left VRR and Pfaff less than two months to finish it before the 2014 SEMA show.

At 220 mph, you lose control of your GT-R hurtling off the tarmac into the dirt. What would you do?

We thought Myles might have been just another basic Honda fan. He talked of owning several Acura Integras over the years, drives a beat up old Civic with over 200,000 miles on it and had the audacity to think those "wrong wheel drive, torqueless wonders" could be competitive in many forms of motorsport. Myles has indeed had the nerve to use his Integras in road racing, autocross and drag racing. Boasting high horsepower numbers, while conveniently omitting torque numbers, all while trying to outrun/outrace vastly superior cars was clearly part of the basic Honda fanboy delusion that Myles was consumed by.

Let's say that you were rolling around Shift-S3ctor's Airstrip Attack 7 in a twin-turbo, V-8-powered BMW M5. And let's say that for your half-mile run, you staged next to a plain-looking, white RS7. If you hadn't been paying attention in the pits, would you have felt pretty confident about pulling out the win? I mean, with an M5's stock 0-60 times in the mid-3-second range, and stock 0-100 times in just over 8 seconds, that's a pretty fast ride. Add in a few mods and you've got yourself a giant killer.

by

Airstrip attack racing has exploded in popularity in recent years, helping it become one of the most popular modern motorsports. Combining a stationary start with the crazy speeds of a half-mile drag race, airstrip attack racing pushes both man and machine to the very edge.

A 507-horsepowered C63 AMG Black Series may seem like a sufficient performance car, but the brains at Weistec Engineering feel otherwise, taking their Shift-S3ctor Airstrip Attack 7 to almost 800 horsepower.

Writing a "fastest Supra" blog is kinda like asking which of Mike Tyson's punches is the strongest, which of Kim Kardashian's butt cheeks is the roundest or which of Revvolution's team members are trying to look the coolest in shades (besides me). The answers? All of the above, of course. Yep, "fast Supra" is basically an oxymoron these days, so you really have to have something special to claim the "fastest import" title. And EKanoo Racing has something special—their Outlaw 10.5 Supra just ran an eye-popping 6.05 ET at 387 km/h (240 mph)!

OB Prestige Auto's 2,000+ horsepower Gallardo Superleggera just dominated Shift-S3ctor's Airstrip Attack 7 (be sure to check out our official coverage) by blasting a scorching 229.1 mph half-mile run (read: soon after this video was published, they set two consecutive passes, each besting this trap speed; more on that later).

by

As the last event of the year, the two-day Shift-S3ctor Airstrip Attack 7 by Diamonds by Wire and OB Prestige went out with a bang by hosting the most powerful and record-setting half-mile drag we've seen to date. To give you an idea of how hot this event is, the total attendance was tallied at 1,500 over the course of both days with 240 participants. That's 120 of the fastest and most powerful street cars in the nation running each day. Saturday sold out in only 15 minutes, and Sunday was sold out in 24 hours. Ridiculous.

Specs: 784 horsepower. 737 pound-feet of torque. Twin-turbo V-6. Dual-clutch, 8-speed transmission. These are just a few of the tantalizing tidbits circulating about the next-generation GT-R. And while they're just educated guesses gleaned from industry sources at this point, all signs point to a major Godzilla upgrade. And get this: the R36 might even have a completely revolutionary hybrid powertrain.

The F80 is a mind-blowing concept that was penned by Adriano Raeli. Raeli is a young Italian who moved to California to study transportation design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. His portfolio contains several interesting designs: the Alva Roadboard is a lightweight, electric take on an adult skateboard, and the Alfa Romeo Azzurra is a futuristic cross between a Maserati and a Jaguar.

Liberty Walk has gotten a lot of love on this site lately, and its insanely wide and low project cars are a big reason why. But while it's always great to see Wataru Kato and crew's latest big-fender creations, most of the time, we only catch 'em sitting pretty next to stick-like trade show models.

With much anticipation, Honda will make their return to Formula One in 2015 as the official engine/power train supplier for McLaren. To say Honda has enjoyed success as an engine supplier in the highest echelon of motorsports would be a gross understatement. Their success was most evident in the 1980s as they exploited the limits of turbocharging, as well as emerging as the front-runner of normally aspirated technology after a rules change in 1989. During a special exhibition at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit in Japan (conveniently also the location of the Honda Collection Hall Museum), Honda resurrected three of the most important Formula One cars of that era and shared the videos of their runs. Turn your speakers up!

by

ARMYTRIX recently shared a video that's about as far away from those digital baby steps as possible. (As an aside, their website is insanely good: the intro vid is of a stanced-out Aventador spitting fire through its valvetronic exhaust, then screaming off toward SEMA. I laughed, I cried, it became a part of me.)

So if I just told you that someone screwed a wing and other body mods onto a Mercedes hatchback-the fugly steeds of Connecticut Stepford wives-you'd probably groan. But two things: one, this isn’t some bloated, American-market Mercedes wagon-it's an A 45 AMG. And two, it's not some slapdash body kit-it's one of Japan-based Varis' own project cars.

East Coast Tuners hosted their first Gumball meet in 2013 at an airfield in Danbury, Conn., and the show and turnout were impressive for a first time event. This year they came back in a big way, this time hosting the event at Lime Rock Park, about as great a venue as you could ask for.

Back in the day, Scotty was a die-hard street racer who always had an affinity for the older, two-door GC body style. He'd shared co-driving duties in a friend's GC rally car, and that experience made him realize how strong the Subaru chassis was. However, he liked the RS's factory look so much that his own car remained stock for a year after he bought it.

The Ford GT40: standing at just 40 inches in height it looks small, even as it passes a Ferrari 360 Modena. If you've never seen one in person, they really are incredibly compact, just the bare essentials of a mid-engine racing car with a body wrapped around it. The sound it makes, however, is anything but diminutive.
