MERCEDES-BENZ SL (W198 - 1ST GEN)

Mercedes-Benz (M-B) began production on the SL (Sport Leicht) series in 1954, with the 300SL and 190SL cars. In 1957, the 300SL Gullwing, with it's iconic doors, was replaced by the roadster in 1957. The more common 190SL featured a 105 hp 4-cylinder, while the 300SL Gullwing and Roadster utilized a 3.0 L inline-6 with 215 hp and 225 hp, respectively. A 4-speed manual was standard in all 1st gen models; M-B closed out the original SL in 1963.
