The 3rd gen SL was built from 1972-1989 and available with a myriad of engine configurations, from a 2.8L inline-6 to a 5.6L V8. A 3 or 4-speed automatic or 4 or 5-speed manual transmission was available. 1986-1989 models were upgraded with 4-piston calipers, larger rotors and improved suspension design. The modern paint system employed to prevent rust was unfortunately a massive failure. The most powerful straight-6 produced 185 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque, while the V8 put down 240 hp and 296 lb-ft.
