Skipping 1996 as a model year, Jeep introduced the new TJ-chassis Wrangler in 1997. Featuring a new coil-spring suspension for improved handling and the classic round headlamps, the TJ relied on the same 4.0 liter inline-6 engine as the YJ model. There were a variety of trim levels available, including the Sahara, Golden Eagle, Rubicon and Unlimited; production of the TJ series ceased in 2006.
