In 2005, Ford introduced a completely redesigned Mustang that was faster, more agile and safer than ever before; however, it was the successful amalgamation of 1960s-era styling cues and a modern design that made the current ‘Stang such a hit with enthusiasts. Available as a coupe or convertible, the 5th generation Mustang can be had with several engines, including a 4.0L SOHC V6 or 4.6L SOHC V8, the latter of which has 3 valves per cylinder. Initially, Tremec supplied two different 5-speed gearboxes, while the optional 5-speed automatic transmission came from Ford. In 2011, the 4.6L V8 was tweaked for more power and a Getrag/Ford 6-speed manual or automatic transmission was now offered. The base models now came with a 3.7L V6 and the GT with a 5.0L DOHC V8. The Boss 302 and Shelby GT500 both offer impressive performance; Ford launched the new GT500 in spring of 2012 as an early 2013 model. It produces 662 hp from a supercharged 5.8L V8 and can reach speeds of over 200 mph.
