With a stiffer frame, potent new LS1 motor and a rear-mounted transaxle, the 1997-2004 Corvette was a force to be reckoned with. The C5 series ‘Vettes featured a more graceful design without compromising aerodynamics; most importantly, the new powertrain allowed the base-model coupe to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds. In 2001, the Z06 was released as the successor to the ZR-1 and boasted a high-output LS6 motor. The Z16 Commemorative Edition, Indy 500 Pace Car Replica and 50th Anniversary Edition were all notable 5th generation offerings.
