Global Time Attack (GTA) teamed up with Shift-S3ctor to deliver the next two rounds of the Pro Am time attack event series at the Chuckwalla Valley Raceway during the forecasted blistering-hot weekend of June 7th. Located in the California desert east of Coachella, the track presents several logistical obstacles in addition to its challenging 2.68 mile, elevation-changing, 17 turn course.

Before the start of GTA Round Two, the early-morning air temperatures were already reaching 115 degrees. All the drivers and crew knew they needed to get their cars out on track early to turn their best times. Necessary preparations were a must to keep not only their vehicles cool but the drivers as well.

The cars on track were just as hot as the weather. Shift-S3ctor is known all over for bringing out some of the fastest and highest horsepower vehicles in California and surrounding states. Despite the extreme temperatures, the action on the track was spectacular as track-prepped heavy-hitting GTRs, Evos, Subies, Hondas and more all came out to compete on one of the nicest track layouts on the West Coast.

First thing in the morning you know its going to be a hazardous day on track when a corner worker warns you that he moved a Mojave green rattlesnake from one of the shooting locations and to be careful. This is the most poisonous rattlesnake in California and a bite from it out in this location would cause certain death as a helicopter wouldn't even make it to the track before you die from your injuries. Luckily after that warning we had to shoot cars on track AND be aware of all the deadly critters around. Not thirty minutes later out the corner of my eye I see something slithering towards me. It was about 1 foot long and had its tongue flickering fast and looking at me. Surely was a bit intimidating for such a tiny creature. Felt it was best to get out of its way and move to safer ground.

 
By 3pm of Round Two, track temps were above an unreal 160 degrees and the event had to be shut down early by the track officials and EMTs. Some drivers were only able to get out and run one or two hot laps to record official times to prevent their cars from over-heating and their tires from literally melting.

Sunday's Round Three presented similar challenges as the heat rose well above100 degrees. Again, the drivers and crew had to make sure they were prepared to prevent their track machines from over-heating. Typical preparations don't apply in weather like this. Luckily Shift-S3ctor was able to properly execute a full track day allowing for faster times than the previous day with times being beat by over two seconds.
