This video, taken inside the insane Audi S1 Group B rally racing shows driver Josef Berez at a Slovakian Hill Climb event. While it is amazing to watch him power the beast on the track making it look so effortless, the real gem to the video is the amazing sound.
The short clip opens with a BMW already rocketing several feet above the race course, cresting a hill. The car’s nose begins to dive, appearing to travel over 150 feet before making a very gruesome landing.
Like McRae, multiple-time Canadian Rally Champion Pat “Rocket” Richard always had what it took to win with style. Richard's recent performance in Rally Baie des Chaleurs showed that desire in its entirety. His Subaru rally car just clipped the apex, sending it rolling onto its side and roof in a ditch. Since he didn't land on his wheels, he took it upon himself to get out of the car and help push it back upright while his co-driver, Alan Ockwell, stayed strapped in, ready to continue his pace notes.
Olympus Rally was held last weekend in Shelton, Washington. The event started with the announcement that Olympus Rally is officially a Rally America sanctioned event once more after a one-year break. Similar to the Oregon Trail Rally, the Olympus Rally offers extremely beautiful scenery, an assortment of obstacles, miles and miles of back roads and, most important, it has its NW Rally fans! It will be awesome to have Olympus on the national event roster next year giving the teams another event, and giving the sport yet another opportunity to expand and grow. Rally America seems to be doing all they can to help the sport evolve; they’re now nationally televised and in the process of adding other venues. We can’t wait to see what they produce next.
