By now it seems everyone in the automotive racing world is familiar with the annual TX2K event in Houston, Texas, each March. What everyone may not be aware of is the invitation-only clash of the titans race that takes place just weeks after, and attracts the biggest names in the high-end performance street scene. The Texas Invitational, a legendary, side-by-side roll racing event, held at a private airfield about twenty minutes east of Dallas, is truly a gathering of the who's who in high-end car builds.

One thing Team Revvolution has noticed from our most recent high-speed airstrip events (e.g., Shift-S3ctor’s Airstrip Attacks and the Texas Mile) is that many participants compete with Ford GTs. What is it about the coveted supercar that has made it such a popular choice at these events? Perhaps it’s an automobile that is near perfect from the factory, yet has so much potential for modifications. Even famed Texas tuner Hennessey Performance set a new Texas Mile Record (in a GT) last year and has since broken that record twice (257.7 mph and 263.3 mph in 2012, 267.7 mph in 2013). This is a look at the heritage and modified development of the Ford GT.

This past weekend we once again ventured down to the Lone Star State for something we’ve heard much about—an event that is held in such high regard that it’s invite only, and we as media had to be vetted to be accepted into the circle of trust. This event, known as the Texas Invitational, is something many enthusiasts only dream of participating in—an event where the top vehicles of other high-profile Texas-based shootouts merely hope to maintain a position on the lower rungs in this bracket.
