With last week’s conclusion of Shift-S3ctor’s Airstrip Attack, one of our favorite events, we’ve seen (and continue to uncover) a ton of high-grade media come out of the woodwork. It’s refreshing to experience so many photographic styles surface from a single event. The social channels are flooded with everything from lifestyle shots to postproduction-intensive vehicle features to detail-oriented product lineups, and we cannot get enough of it. Kudos to all the photographers and videographers who were “working” to help cover the event in the light it deserves. In the spirit of mixing it up, this week’s Top 10 Automotive Media will focus solely on our favorite images from before, during, and after California’s only half-mile, high-speed, side-by-side rolling race.
When Shift-S3ctor created their very first Airstrip Attack in October 2011, the theory was simple—provide a safe, legal, and competitive atmosphere where they could push their vehicles and themselves to the limit. Throughout the past three years, this event has grown by unsurpassed proportions. What once was a gathering of friends has snowballed into an event that attracts some of the most important names in the automotive performance industry. To many, Shift-S3ctor’s Airstrip Attack has become a proving ground to assert their dominance and to establish or reaffirm their place in this industry. Check out our coverage from the October 2013 Airstrip Attack event.
With summer on its way out, most of Colorado’s big automotive events have come and gone, but we often hear the saying that the best is saved for last, and Triple Crown Drift Week 2013 August 15–17 was no exception. TC Drift Week was a three-day drift and lifestyle event right in our own backyard. Drifters, crew, family, and friends all gathered at one of the most capable local venues—PPIR. With four different tracks, a gymkhana course, drift kart, autocross, and the main drift track, the event wasn’t lacking in tire smoke.
AMS Performance has taken the Alpha Omega GT-R to the max; it’s the first to hit 9s, 8s, and now 7s in the quarter-mile. Hitting the milestones was no easy task with the GT-R’s complex drivetrain. Always trying new approaches with its products and ECU calibrations and working very closely with other companies to push the envelope, it’s obvious AMS Performance will surely raise the bar again with this platform.
Global Time Attack (GTA) teamed up with Shift-S3ctor to deliver the next two rounds of the Pro Am time attack event series at the Chuckwalla Valley Raceway during the forecasted blistering-hot weekend of June 7th. Located in the California desert east of Coachella, the track presents several logistical obstacles in addition to its challenging 2.68 mile, elevation-changing, 17 turn course.
