(22 and counting) Ok everyone feel free to add corrections or just add to the list. I was gonna put this in a tutorial but I thought it would be better if we could all add to it. Here we go, Big misconceptions corrected.... 1. Blow off valves are much better vented to atmosphere? No. Unless running a blow thru or speed density, doing this can actually make your car run like crap! 2. Bigger brakes are always better? No. You can spend that $1K+ you saved on much better performance parts to make your car better then that big brake kit on your near stock car. I have read a huge theory about how far most OEM brakes will take you. Save the big brakes and drilled rotors for the 450hp+ guys. 3. My N/A car needs the biggest exhaust for least back pressure? Again no. Exhaust is actually a science all in its own and backpressure actually helps scaveng cylinders for better performance. 4. The louder it is the faster it is? No sir. Possibly the louder the more annoying... This goes back to the theory of how exhausts work. I have seen 11 second Chevelles be as quite as a stock exhaust with a after market multichamber muffler. 5. That car does not need that "rice wing". Actually (STi/EVO/TT guys here ya go) that wing helps with downforce at highway speeds and above. Did you know an Audi TT will spin out at 55mph without its little spoiler. Not to say some wings/spoilers are completely useless too... 6. All I need is a boost controller to be at race car status? Please no! Boost controllers are actually meant to limit boost and if you want to run more boost you better have the right mods and proper tuning done. There is alot more involved then just "turn it up!" 7. Whaddya mean my VTEC is worthless below 5200rpm? A 4000rpm engagement makes it uber fast! Tis true. After engaging an indepth conversation with a Honda specialist, I found out that you are only hurting yourself by engaging VTEC at a super low rpm. the air flow just is not there to support the higher duration and lift. 8. That body kit will make the air flow and my car fly!!! Eh... possibly. If you look at a majorty of kits, they are mainly for cosmetic purpose. And add useles weight to your car. Now there are some that serve a purpose but also if you are going that route, look into canards, lip spoilers, and diffusers. 9. Your "herrufruuushh" sterch stance tires is actually pretty unsafe and the tire can pop off its bead seat at a given moment... we dont want you or your ride especially you, gettin hurt/injured. 10. Gotta hit that water box before staging up right? Wrong! Unless you are running the horsepower and the drag slicks/ radials, dont hit the water box. This hurts your traction in a drag race. Just do a little burn out next to it to get the pebbles out of your street tires and warm them up a bit.

11. There is no replacement for displacement. Haha
2/26/2012
lol i agree

Lol, well as much as I hate to say it, I believe its a misconception that it is a misconception. Any technology that you can apply to a 2 liter 4 cylinder can be applied to a 4 liter 8 cylinder engine for twice the power. Not really fair to compare a turbo 4 banger to a NA V8.

I do argue this because my 2.0L with the TD05 14B turbo is damn near equivalent to a 5.0L. but it just depends how you look at it. I can argue it either way haha... play some devils advocate.

Haha yeah. Us tuners sometimes tend to forget the "all things equal" part. We cant really compare our DOHC 2.0L Turbo engines to a pushrod 5.0L NA Crossplane V8. The only advantage the example V8 has is its displacement.

That is very true my man!

I got another one. 11. Lowering your car improves handling.

Very good! I just remembered another one... Number next one. An adjustable fuel pressure regulator is not needed on a car with only intake and exhaust mods. Im pretty sure stock fuel systems handle your header back and cold air intake pretty well.
